The smell of garbage is something no one wants to have in or near his house. As a quick fix to this problem, you can use baking soda and regularly apply some of it to your trash can. Another way to combat bad smells is to use a little cotton fabric soaked in essential oils.

Just leave it at the bottom of the bucket and it will help hide the unpleasant smell of garbage on hot summer days.

If you are still looking for a way to prevent ants from taking over your kitchen, we have a list of great ways to get rid of them!

Cinnamon

One of the reasons ants can be so annoying is their incredible sense of smell, which allows them to locate food sources over quite a distance. Fortunately, this sense of smell is also a great tool to make sure they stay away. Ants hate the smell of cinnamon, which makes it surprisingly easy to keep them away.

All you have to do is mix some cinnamon oil with water and apply some of this mixture to areas in which you previously spotted ants. You can also place tubes of cinnamon near windows or doors to prevent ants from entering the house. Alternatively, you can also use a more radical approach and directly spray the little buggers with a mixture of water and cinnamon oil.

Vinegar

Ants react very strongly to vinegar, which makes this cheap household item ideal when trying to get rid of them. The easiest way to use vinegar for this purpose is to make a mixture of water and vinegar and directly spray ant colonies with it. You can also apply it to windows and doors. To make sure this method works you have to apply the vinegar mixture regularly until ants have stopped being a problem.

Borax

Borax, also called sodium tetraborate, is used in several cleaning products as well as pesticides. This colorless crystal salt can be bought in pharmacies, certain supermarkets as well as home improvement stores. Simply dissolve two tablespoons of Borax in a medium-sized cup of warm water and add some sugar to this mixture. You then have to soak little pieces of cotton in the liquid and place them in areas ants tend to frequent (like windows, doors or kitchen tops). The sugar will attract the ants, while the sodium tetraborate kills them off.
